After the referee finally settles everyone down, Brad Evans steps up to the spot, take five steps, and buries it far right at 90+7′ to seal the victory for Seattle.
But the US international, spurred on by Olimpia’s keeper Valladares refusing to get back on his line for three minutes can’t help but talk trash after burrying it. Olimpia defender Fabio de Souza didn’t take too kindly to Evans’ words and the ensuing altercation drew the presence of all 22 players on the field. Most of Olimpia’s bench as well as their coach started to head over to the incident but thanks to cooler heads tempers defused and everyone went back to their places so the last few seconds of the game could be played out.
With a final score of Seattle Sounders 2, C.D. Olimpia 1, the Sounders solidify their lead at the top of Group F. Next weeks match up in Tegucigalpa just became a must win for the home side if they want to hold onto any chance of winning the group. After Wednesdays game and the tempers that were on display, it’s safe to say Wednesday Aug 26th is sure to be hotly contested.
