Looks like the Portland Timbers’ troubles never stop, and with a bomb of a recent news of Santiago Moreno asking to leave the Rose City side because of him being unappreciated.
Before the start of the season, the Timbers had an offer of almost two million dollars for the services of the young Colombian. I must say how the Timbers’ problems are mounting and looking at the way they are playing, there may be a possible exodus of a player or two if this continues.
After last season, the Colombian had an amazing year after his debut in 2021. In 2022 in 34 games, the man started in 28 and scored a whooping seven goals and eight assists. Despite not scoring this season, he currently leads the team with six assists.
Despite having a slow start, Santiago Moreno has turned his season around and becoming very vocal when the Timbers have won the few games these have in the current season.
What’s the matter with this team? How will this team fare at the end of the season and maybe kiss it goodbye as the way the Timbers are playing as if they don’t really care for the game and pity for Ned Gravaboy’s efforts of trying to build an all-around contender.
Santiago Moreno needs to stay and amongst one of the realities this team needs is a change in its helm. Santi was built in the Rose City and I agree with his disagreement with the direction this club is heading.
As the Oregonian mentioned him being among those “particular players” that coach Giovanni Savarese stated of some of his players not giving enough effort. Somehow, I foresee that this team needs a change in its helm. If this happens, maybe we can see a possible turnaround for this 2023 season.
In the end, losing Santiago Moreno will be a heavy loss for the team. This player develops his skills in this team and needs to stay with this team as maybe we can see a formal offer from a European suitor in the future.
Give Moreno his place in this team and don’t make him feel unappreciated. This lad has a bright future ahead and needs to be valued as one important piece of this team, moving on will be a day of mourning for Portland.
