Santiago Moreno given an extension by the Portland Timbers through 2026

The Portland Timbers announced today that they have given an extension to its midfielder Santiago Moreno,  through the 2026 season with a club option to 2027.

The Colombian native entering his fourth season with the Rose City side. Ever since making his debut, the player made an impact on the field maturing into a player making a big difference for the Timbers. His official debut with the Timbers was on August 29, 2021, the Colombian international has registered 10 goals and 21 assists in 78 appearances (60 starts), becoming the youngest player in franchise history to record double digit goals and assists for Portland at 23 years of age surpassing Darlington Nagbe, the other young player in the Timbers history at 23 years of age and 288 days old on May 3, 2014.

In the 2023 campaign, Moreno led the team in appearances (31), successful dribbles (59), duels won (163) and assists with nine, a new career best for the 23-year-old attacker. Notably, he notched four game-winning assists last year. In his first full season for the team in 2022, Moreno tallied seven goals and eight assists in 34 appearances (28 starts), leading the team in matches played, points (22), chances created (55) and successful dribbles (75).

At the international level, Moreno has earned two caps for the Colombian National Team. He debuted for the senior squad in a friendly match against Paraguay on Nov. 19, 2022, and made his second appearance in a friendly match against the U.S. Men’s National Team on January 28, 2023.

Transaction: Portland Timbers sign midfielder Santiago Moreno to a contract extension through the 2026 season with a club option in 2027.
