San Jose remains unbeaten at home as Portland settles for a point

Daniel became the ultimate hero for San Jose denying the visiting Portland Timbers (5-7-6, 21 points) with four saves as well keeping the San Jose Earthquakes (7-5-6, 27 points) unbeaten at home. His counterpart David Bingham made two saves and both sharing the spoils in the end with clean sheets.

With Portland leading the way in overall shots 16-12 and a 4-2 in their favor of shots at goal and getting near chances at goal, in the end Daniel and the Quakes’ defensive backfield came out big.

David Bingham once again shone in the Portland arches and scored his third consecutive clean sheet after filling in for Aljaz Ivacic, currently on international duty with his national team.

Still, if the night belonged to someone, it was for Daniel, who denied the likes of Franck Boli in the 27th minute, and Evander in the 43rd minute.

However, another showing of the man from Brazil could make the comparison of him to one of his countryman Allison, the goalkeeper from Liverpool, again rejecting a near and would be goal after a long shot effort in the 58th minute,

San Jose had their chances when Tommy Thompson in the second half almost pushed Paul Marie’s pass and hitting the right post, and a header of a Cristian Espinoza cross that Bingham denied his old club of a score.

Both sides had close calls one when Timbers’ Diego Chara in the 32nd minute had an injury scare but, in the end, the elder Chara returned to the game as did Quakes’ keeper Daniel, who had a scare of his own after colliding with his own defender.

In the end, both sides just had near scares of injuries to their notable men and in the end, both returning to the field and completing the game.

My conclusion this game was centered on both goalkeepers making their best efforts and game saving stops in a game that concluded with no goals scored.
