Foxboro, Massachusetts– The New England Revolution would come out the gates hot in tonight’s matchup against Eastern Conference rival, Orlando City SC. After scoring early, the Revolution dominated most of the game before allowing a late consolation goal to the visitors. Four different goal scorers would help New England win 4-1, and ultimately improve their unbeaten run to eleven matches.

Right from the opening kick-off, it was all Revs. The Revolution went at Orlando from both sides with Brandon Bye and Edgar Castillo making dangerous attacking runs early and often. In only the third minute of play, newcomer, Gustavo Bou made a back heel pass to Castillo. Castillo would return the ball to Bou who tucked it home inside the far post. This marks Bou’s second goal in a Revolution jersey.

New England continued to press and create chances for the remainder of the half, but could not find a way to put another shot behind Orlando goalkeeper Brian Rowe. Orlando was unable to find that final pass in the attacking third, leading to nothing coming from their numerous attacking possessions. Revolution goalkeeper, Matt Turner stood tall for the Revolution, making seven saves on the night.

The Revolution would start the second half the way they opened the first. In the 47th minute, Brandon Bye would send a bouncing cross into the box. It traveled through a number of players before finding Cristian Penilla at the back post. Penilla would slot home the shot and double the Revolution lead.

About ten minutes later a shout for handball would go unnoticed, at least that what it would seem. After a lengthy run of play, referee Alan Kelly would go to the screen for a VAR review. The review would favor the Revolution and Carles Gil would put away his seventh goal of the season.

In the 73rd minute, Diego Fagundez came on and replaced Teal Bunbury. Coming into tonight’s contest, Fagundez looked to score a goal, moving into an outright second place for all time Revolution goal scorers. It took Fagundez only two minutes to score a goal to accomplish this goal. A driven shot to the top corner from about 23 yards out marked his second goal of the 2019 campaign.

In the 77th minute, Orlando would find the back of the net. Tesho Akindele finished a perfect pass from Dom Dwyer and wiped away the clean sheet. Orlando attacked late and had two good chances to find another goal, but Matt Turner was able to handle all that was thrown his way. The Revolution would close out the game and win 4-1. Exceptional game by the outside backs of the Revolution in Brandon Bye and Edgar Castillo. Both backs attacked often, keeping the Orlando defense spread out and allowing the Revs to attack successfully.

Up next for the Revolution (9-8-6, 33 points) comes a match-up with the leagues overall points leader in LAFC (7:30pm EST,  ESPN+). The Revolution look to improve their streak to 12 games unbeaten, but will be faced with the task of guarding Carlos Vela who has 19 goals on the season so far. This game also marks the return of former captain, Lee Nguyen. Nguyen had his record-setting year in 2014, scoring 18 goals and helping lead the Revolution to an MLS Cup Finals appearance.
