Revolution Seven Match Unbeaten Streak Comes To An End… NYCFC 2- Revolution 0

On a rainy and gloomy Wednesday night, the New England Revolution would take the pitch to face off against Eastern Conference rivals New York City F.C. The Revolution would enter the match riding a seven-game unbeaten streak, dating back to February earlier this year.

It would not take long for New York to dismantle the Revolution’s “makeshift” midfield. Lacking the injured Carles Gil, and having traded their defensive-minded midfielder in Wilfried Zahibo, the Revs looked to piece together a midfield consisting of all attacking minded personnel. New York would create almost all of the first half chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Matt Turner made a number of saves, including one big reaction save off of a New York corner kick.

Even with all of the attacking minded players, the Revolution were unable to put a shot on frame during the first 45 minutes.

The second half would feature a lot of chances from the Revolution, but nothing that put New York City F.C. in a lot of danger. In the 60th minute, New York defender Anton Tinnerholm beat his man down the wing before sending in a dangerous cross. With both Herber of NYCFC and Mancienne of New England sliding for the ball, it deflected past the reach of Turner, giving a 1-0 lead to the visitors.

Bruce Arena and the Revolution would not lay down here, but would start to pick things up, generating a number of chances that threatened the New York back line. However, right when things looked to be looking up, an open header off of a New York corner kick would double the visitors lead. Heber would find himself above Mancienne and put the header far post past the outstretched arms of Turner.

In a game where the Revolution lacked creativity and offensive threat, New York City F.C. would leave with their second ever win at Gillette Stadium. The 2-0 defeat would put an end to the Revolution’s unbeaten streak that had amounted to seven matches.

Up next for the Revolution is a Sunday night matchup in Chicago.
