Revolution II win second match in 4 days with 2-0 victory over Columbus Crew II

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution II were victorious in a 2-0 match versus the Columbus Crew II in an MLS NEXT Pro Match on Thursday, May 25th.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

The team started their lineup in a 3-4-3 formation with Jacob Jackson starting in net with a backline of Peyton (center backs) Pierre Cayet, Victor Souza, and Santiago Suarez. The wingback roles were manned by Peyton Miller (left) and Malcolm Fry (right). The midfield consisted of Colby Quinones (left midfield), and Jake Rozhansky (right midfield). The attacking roles were manned by Ben Awashie (left attacking wing), Marcos Dias (right winger), and Jordan Adebayo-Smith as the lone striker.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and launching it up the field into the left flank of Columbus defensive third.

For the first 30 minutes, it was a back-and-forth match with very little chances for either side.

Following a long ball in the 32nd minute, the Revolution took the early 1-0 lead.

After a long ball by —-, forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith rounded goalkeeper —– who was roughly 50 yards out of his own net. Adebayo-Smith walked it in for the early 1-0 lead

With no other action, the match entered halftime with the Revs leading 1-0.

The second half kicked off with Columbus starting from the center circle and launching it up the field into the New England defensive third.

Columbus had their best chance of the match in the 49th minute when #22 Marco Micaletto slid a ball into #9 Noah Fuson. His shot was saved point blank and cleared out of the revolution penalty area.

In the 60th minute, Head Coach Clint Peay made his first change of the match by substituting Peyton Miller for Gianluca Armellino.

In the 62nd minute, Columbus Crew midfielder #10 Thomas Roberts was shown a yellow card.

In the 65th minute, Columbus Crew midfielder #7 Ariel Mbumba was shown a yellow card.

One minute later, the Revolution added to their advantage.

Following a freekick taken by Jake Rozhansky, the ball was headed by Pierre Cayet and the ball struck the left post. The ball then deflected around in the box to find Victor Souza who slid it to Ben Awashie for the goal.

In the 82nd minute, Revolution II midfielder Jake Rozhansky was shown a yellow card.

In the 86th minute, Head Coach Clint Peay made his second and final change of the match by substituting Malcolm Fry for Nakye Greenidge-Duncan.

In the 86th minute, Revolution II forward Weverton was shown a yellow card.

After the 90 +4 minutes, the Revolution were victorious 2-0.

The New England Revolution II remain in Foxborough, MA to face CF Inter Miami II in an MLS NEXT Pro match on Sunday May 28th. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
