FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (1-1-3, 5 pts.) tied Toronto FC II (1-1-2, 4 pts) in a 1-1 match, but defeated them 5-4 in penalties on Friday afternoon.
The match kicked off at 6:00 p.m. ET at York Lions Stadium in Toronto, Canada.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper JD Gunn starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Eric Klein, (center backs) Victor Souza and Santiago Suarez, along with (right back) Hesron Barry. The midfield consisted of Lucas Maciel(left), Jack Panayotou (center), and Patrick Leal (right). The forward roles were manned by Gevork Diarbian (left), Alex Monis (right), and Marcos Dias (central) as the lone striker.
Defender Victor Souza wore the captain’s armband.
This is JD Gunn’s New England Revolution professional debut.
First team players Santiago Suarez and Jack Panayotou started the match. Joshua Bolma was on the bench.

The match began with Toronto starting from the center circle. They elected swiftly to launch the ball into New England’s defensive third.
In just the 2nd minute, Toronto FC II midfielder #89 Charlie Staniland was issued a yellow card for fouling Gevork Diarbian.
Just 7 minutes into the match, Toronto gained the early advantage.

After midfielder #73 Jesús Batiz drove into the box, the ball pinballed around between forward #72 Mark Fisher and #73 Jesús Batiz. The ball then was flicked onto forward #82 Julian Altobelli for the easy back-post finish.
Toronto’s second effort in the match came in the 13th minute when TFC had a corner kick, but the effort was caught by goalkeeper JD Gunn.
Entering the 18th minute, Toronto had yet another chance, this time from long distance when midfielder #71 Markus Cimermancic’s effort went beckoning over the bar.
In the 24th minute, Revolution II defender Hesron Barry was issued a yellow card four fouling #72 Mark Fisher.
Toronto had yet another corner kick chance when the effort went wide and was kept in by defender #59 Ythallo. The ball was then cleared to half.
In just the 39th minute, Toronto FC II midfielder #95 Nathaniel Edwards was issued a yellow card.

After bringing down a header from his own right back, Lucas Maciel trapped the ball and sent a through ball toward Alex Monis. With the goalkeeper coming out, Monis switched the field to find Marcos Dias for the right-footed chip shot into the center of the goal.
Following the goal, the match entered halftime level at 1-1.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle. The ball was played backwards and then launched into Toronto’s defensive third.
Toronto had the first chance of the half from a corner kick, but it was cleared by Victor Souza.
New England’s first chance came in the 54th minute when Gevork Diarbian’s effort was deflected out for a corner kick. The ensuing corner was cleared.
Toronto had yet another chance entering the 57th minute when #82 Julian Altobelli attempted to find #95 Nathaniel Edwards, but it was blocked.
Another corner kick for Toronto FC was almost finished by #73 Jesús Batiz, but the ball went just wide.
In the 63rd minute, Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini made his first two changes of the match by substituting midfielders #89 Charlie Staniland and #95 Nathaniel Edwards and replacing them with midfielder #68 Lucas Olguin and defender #92 Theo Brown.

Just 2 minutes later, Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini made his third change of the match by substituting forward #82 Julian Altobelli and replacing him with forward #81 Hassan Ayari.
Another corner kick for Toronto came just after the 70th minute when #73 Jesús Batiz’s delivery was met with a header by #59 Ythallo. The header was then saved by JD Gunn.
Entering the 74th minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his second and third changes of the match by substituting Alex Monis and Patrick Leal and replacing them with Olger Escobar and Luka Borovic.

Just before the 84th minute, Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini made his final two changes of the match by substituting midfielder #73 Jesús Batiz and forward #91 Dékwon Barrow and replacing them with defender #65 Antony Ćurić and forward #70 Matthew Catavolo.
