FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Revolution engaged in a back-and-forth battle with FC Dallas on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, but came away empty in a 4-2 loss in front of 23,472.

It was the Revolution’s first home loss since falling to Montreal 1-0 on October 17, 2015; the result also marked the most goals scored against the Revs at Gillette Stadium since losing to Philadelphia 4-2 on Sept. 8, 2013.

FC Dallas opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fifth minute as Tesho Akindele fired left while Revolution goal keeper Bobby Shuttleworth went the other way.

Shuttleworth was  yellow carded for conceding the spot kick, as he clipped Michael Barrios, who ran into the penalty area off a long, lofted pass by Victor Ulloa.

The hosts tried for the quick response after falling behind early, Lee Nguyen clipping the top of the bar on a 25-yard blast in the 15th minute.

However, the Revolution didn’t have to wait much longer to get on the score sheet, as Juan Agudelo headed in a 23rd minute freekick by Nguyen for his third goal in four games.

Shortly thereafter, the Revolution got a penalty kick of their own as referee Silviu Petrescu pointed to the spot in the 26th minute after Ullua kicked Nguyen in the box.

Nguyen buried the ensuing penalty, shooting to the roof of the net for his third goal of the season.

Dallas responded in the 36th, as Kellyn Acosta’s corner found Atiba Harris, who headed the feed past Shuttleworth to level the score.

The visitors scored their third goal thanks to an unforced error by the Revolution. In the 72nd minute, Andrew Farrell headed the ball into the path of a Dallas midfielder, who served the ball ahead to Fabian Castillo. Sambinha closed on Castillo, but whiffed on the clearance, enabling Castillo to walk the ball into the net to make it 3-2.

Akindele made it 4-2 and doubled his tally just before second half stoppage time commenced, as he collected a feed from Acosta at the top of the box before firing the ball into the net.

The Revolution’s next match is on Saturday, May 28, at Gillette Stadium against the Seattle Sounders.
