Red Stars Sign Pair of Players

CHICAGO, IL–On Wednesday, the Chicago Red Stars signed two players. First was Brazilian International Julia Bianchi to a two-year deal. The defensive midfielder spent the last two seasons with Brazilian side, Palmeiras where she played 77 matches and won three championships (Paulista Cup, Libertadores and Paulista Championship). The Brazilian national also spent time with Real Madrid in Spain. Bianchi will join the team pending approval of her visa. 

“Julia is a talented player. She can play a number of different positions and be effective in each one,” said Red Stars Head Coach, Chris Petrucelli. “She’s proven to be a top player in Brazil, and we expect the same kind of success in the NWSL. She’s still a young player so we’re very excited about her future in Chicago.”

Additionally, the Red Stars acquired Cari Roccaro from Angel City FC in exchange for $65,000 in allocation money. The midfielder played in 21 matches last season for Angel City scoring four goals and an assist. Previously, Roccaro played for North Carolina Courage from 2018 to 2021 winning two titles with the Courage.

The preseason for the Red Stars officially began on Wednesday with a preseason roster of 32 players:
