Good news for both Portland Timbers and Thorns fans, after today’s announcement by the Oregon Health Authority allowing 25 percent capacity at outdoor live sporting events, both teams will host fans for all home matches.
The Portland Thorns on April 9th will play host Kansas City in their first match of the NWSL Challenge Cup and marking the return for Kansas City to league play after a four-year absence.
The Timbers will host fans on April 13th, when the club plays C.D. Marathon of Honduras in a Round of 16 and the first leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League match.
For club owner, Merritt Paulson showed his gratefulness to Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Health Authority for their hard work and marking the return of fans safely at Providence Park.
“As we enter a period of great optimism with falling COVID-19 rates and increased vaccine deployment, the protection of our fans, staff and players remains our top priority and we will diligently follow all public health protocols to ensure our plan is executed safely. It will be a special moment to have our fans back in the stands on April 9 and we hope that on the current trajectory, we will be able to safely increase capacity throughout the summer.”
