The United States Men’s National Team faces their toughest opponents of the group stage Friday, taking on England in the second match of Group B play for each team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Americans are looking to bounce back from their frustrating 1-1 draw with Wales, a match in which they probably should’ve taken all three points. Timothy Weah’s 39th minute goal was not enough for the US after an unnecessary foul from Walker Zimmerman in the 80th minute gave Wales their lone goal from the penalty spot.
Weston McKennie, Sergiño Dest, Tim Ream and Kellyn Acosta were all given yellow cards in the match. If any of them are given a second yellow card in the tournament, they will be suspended for the next match against Iran next Tuesday.
England had no problems dispatching Iran 6-2 in their opening match after taking a 4-0 lead 62 minutes into the contest. England’s roster is filled with some of the world’s best players in Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and budding superstar in Jude Bellingham, so much so that their bench includes the likes of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.
Harry Kane has been dealing with an ankle issue since suffering a knock during their match vs. Iran, so England manager Gareth Southgate has a decision to make with his world-class striker.
These two sides last faced off in a friendly in November 2018 at Wembley Stadium (I was there!) where England dominated their way to a 3-0 win. The two nations also played to a 1-1 draw in the Group Stage of the 2010 World Cup.
How to watch: English broadcast on Fox, Spanish broadcast on Telemundo.
