Chicago Fire (6-10-9, 10th in East) vs. Montreal Impact (10-12-3, 6th in East)
The Chicago Fire will look to make it back-to-back wins for just the second time this season as they take on the Montreal Impact. The Impact won the previous meeting this season at Stade Saputo.
The Fire got their first away win in nearly 15 months with a 1-0 win at Houston on a goal from Nemanja Nikolic. They have points in three of their last four matches, but it’s wins they need going forward. They are currently six points adrift of the red line in the East.
Montreal have lost five of their last six matches, the last being a 6-3 reverse at Colorado. The Impact are just a point above the red line with nine matches to play. The Impact were more successful in the Canadian Championship by taking their semifinal first leg, 2-1, over Calvary FC of Calgary.
Earlier this week, the Impact traded midfielder Michael Azira to the Fire for defender Jorge Corrales. The teams also swapped spots in the allocation order with the Fire receiving $75,000 in 2020 general allocation money if the Impact select a player with that pick.
The Fire need wins to get closer to the red line while the Impact need a win to get away from the red line and closer to a playoff spot. The former need to turn “expected goals” into actual goals while the latter need to stop them.
Kickoff is at 8pm CT on ESPN+.
