The Portland Timbers early Yimmi Chara Goal was enough to win in their preseason opener against the Minnesota United at Providence Park. The goal came at minute 5th after when Santiago Moreno who found Yimmi Chara unmarked in the left of the box.
After the initial Portland Timbers burst and goal, the affaire turned into Minnesota United taking the initiative of the game pressing for a goal to square the contest that never came.
Contrary to preseason form, the match was physical, very tactic, hard fought, and at times brisk, with the referee awarding five yellow cards, and a red. Trapp, Reynoso, Kallman for Minnesota, and Diego Chara, and Bill Tuiloma for the Tinbers, the later got a red for a challenge as a last man.
At minute 79, both teams had the unusual move to switch the whole team in a move more in sync with American Football, but that might just been the way of MLS honoring NFL on Superbowl Sunday.
