Portland Timbers 2, San Jose Earthquakes 1

The Portland Timbers extended their run with perfection to eleven consecutive matches. There is no stopping these lads, I must say! So far, in the campaign the Rose City Boys have the number of the San Jose Quakes. With their third win, last night at home and in this season, exposes the struggles the squad from Silicon Valley is going through. Unfortunately, the Quakes had a reaction of their own in the 87’ Florian Jungwirth broke the clean sheet for the locals’.

Going back to the match, overall the Portland squad had a field day against the Quakes. That their late reaction the visitors had, in the near end of the match. The San Jose squad showed no scheme or strategy overall, giving the Portlanders a lot of liberties and at times too complacent in the match.

Ever since the beginning of the match, the San Jose squad started showing signs of trouble. As manager Mikael Stahre had to make a couple of changes in the 23’ and 33’. As the game was going on the likes of defender Kevin Partida and forward Dany Hoesen both sustaining injuries.

As the Portland squad from the get, go started looking for opportunities to score. After a corner kick were the likes of Larrys Mabiala missed the posts. However, the counter play that opened the score was in the 14’ minute. As a pass intercepted by Lawrence Olum opened the door to the first goal of the afternoon. This play leads to the Timbers first goal when Diego Valeri pass on the left side to Samuel Armenteros to score the first goal.

Still there was more to come in the second half once again the Rose City Boys dominating the match. For Armenteros in his first year looks like he has fit in with his new squad and teammates. As the way he played all match long showing off his skills and being a total nightmare for the San Jose backfield. His second score in the 53’ taking with him two defenders and scoring the go-ahead goal via a hat trick.

Undoubtedly Armeneteros is the man of the match with his double. Looking good as manager Savarese mentioned of him not having too much activity in Italy. Here in Portland his hard work is paying off with six goals. Looks like the Swede’s game and with it his scoring rhythm is back with a bang.

Goals

Samuel Armenteros- PTFC 14’, Samuel Armenteros- PTFC 53’, Florian Jungwirth- SJQ 87’

Highlight of the Match

Samuel Armenteros and the whole Portland Timbers initial eleven doing a one of kind job in the field and for the Swede delivering the win with a double.

For Samuel starting lately after an injury by Fanendo Adi, the man has taken advantage of his role and responsibility of the Portland all around offensive attack. In addition, of the men being a goof defender and playmakers, he has adapted rapidly to his teammates and the manager Gio Savarese game scheme. He is becoming a vital piece for the Timbers attack armada composed of Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri.

As number 99 is becoming the Portland follower’s favorite man and with no doubt, he can be in the end of the campaign in the race for the league scoring title.
