Portland Timbers fall 4-2 to Minnesota United in preseason tournament

Portland Timbers fell at home 4-2 against Minnesota United during the preseason tournament. Both teams played with major modifications to their line ups in what could have been a preview of their regular season day view this coming March 1st.

Dairon Asprilla opened the score with a stunning strike from just outside the eighteen yard box in the 29th minute. Things looked well for the Timbers, but Minnesota United midfielder Rasheem Edwards twice in the 35th and 55th minutes turned things around for the Loons.

Minnesota widen its lead when Uruguayan midfielder Thomás Chacón received a pass inside the box free of mark to put the 1-3 during the 63 minute. Then Luis Amarilla sentenced the match with a strike in the 74th minute.

Ken Krolicki’s strike from the edge of the 18-yard box would bring the final score, the T2 player had gained the applause of the fans two minutes before, after a contending a ball with former Seattle Sounders Ozzie Alonso, resulting in a fault and a yellow card for the Portland Player. With the goal, Portland fans surely will remember his name.

With Vancouver’s victory over New England, the tournaments winner is still contended. On Saturday 21, Vancouver Whitecaps will play Minnesota in the early slot, and Portland Timbers will play New England Revolution to close the tournament.
