The Portland Timbers and Inter Miami have agreed to send center back Kamal Miller to the Rose City side in a trade.

As the Athletic reported the news Saturday, the Timbers have agreed to send a total of $625,000 in general allocation money and an international roster spot to Miami in exchange for a player expected to lead the Rose City side defense.

The deal includes performance-based incentives worth around $150,000 more in general allocation monies as the Athletic recently reported. Then coach of Inter Miami Phil Neville acquired Miller in a trade from CF Montreal back in April.

The Canadian international helped Inter Miami win its first trophy in the Leagues Cup this past season, being a starter and playing in 35 matches with the Herons. Miller also has 41 caps for the Canadian Men’s National team and played in all three games in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

His career spans with Syracuse University, drafted by Orlando City in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, and stops in Orlando, Montreal, and Inter Miami playing a total of 110 MLS regular season games.

This move delivers to an unstable and not so steady defensive backfield for the Portland Timbers for the upcoming 2024 season as the team continues to make moves to bolster the defensive game.
