The Portland Thorns kept the three points at their home in Providence Park in a hard fought match against Kansas City for the NWSL Regular season. The goal came on stoppage time in the first half, Simone Charley slotted the winner assisted by Cristal Dunn. The first half also saw Portland midfielder Lindsey Horan needing medical attention on her right knee, and while she was able to finish the first half, Horan was subbed out for Celeste Boureille at half time.
The first half saw a dominating Portland Thorns, but the second 45, had Kansas City carrying the initiative. Portland seemed happy to sit back, and while Kansas City had numerous chances to equalize, Portland also had opportunities to extend their advantage with fast vertical counter attacks. At the of the match, Portland was able to hold the advantage.
