Portland Thorns FC was unable to overcome Gotham FC at their home stadium of Providence Park in Portland, OR in the first day of moving back to full capacity since March, 2020. The match was marked by competing factors, ranging between the heatwave that the west and the top rated European Eurocup final disputed between England and Italy disputed in London, at exactly the same time. While the later had Portland bars and pubs full to the brim, and with air conditioning as the day’s MVP, deprived Providence Park from the first full sell out since the Covid 19 restrictions.
Contrary to the final score, the match was very lively, with multiple goal chances from both sides. Portland Thorns had the chances to keep the three points at home, but a tough Gotham FC, was able to keep their goal unbeaten and at times test Portland’s keeper, Bella Bixby, and make a case for their own win. Bella, along the much talked about Olivia Moultrie made their day view in front of their fans.
