What a dream knockout match-up between the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders. Imagine if the Western Conference finishes this way with the Portland and Seattle squads in 5th and 4th place. We will have one of the utmost of headliners in Major League Soccer postseason.

However, there is still one more week of regular league play. The Seattle Sounders will play at home against the San Jose Quakes. In the case of the Portland Timbers, these will be traveling up north to close the campaign against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Regardless of the results and the Western Division ended up the way it is currently. We may have one of the most spectacular and most contested of rivalries in Major League Soccer. Still for the Portland Timbers (15- 9-9, 54 points) currently in fifth place, they may have a chance.

I mean the opportunity to move up in the table but with just one setback. The goal differential squads like FC Dallas 57 points, LAFC 57 points and Seattle 56 points. Still anything can happen or we may have an answer with the results. As the newcomer LA squad, Dallas if these lose, and Portland wins, we may have a different outcome and parings in these matches.

So far, the standings in the Western conference look like this: 1- SKC 59 points, 2- LAFC 57, 3- FC Dallas 57 points, 4- Seattle 56, 5- Portland Timbers 54. With the six spot in the West being between Real Salt Lake 49 points and the emerging LA Galaxy with 48 points.

Still the Portland Timbers can make some moves in the table with FC Dallas or Seattle losses that can see the Rose City squad jump to third place. In addition, of also finishing on fourth place the odds of hosting a home game are possible.

For the Portland Timbers in the regular campaign these have dominated the Seattle Sounders with a 2-1-0 record. As that loss at home in hat could end in a draw, an OG play delivered that heartbreaking loss against the Rave Greens.

Speaking of the Emerald City squad they are considered as one of the hottest squads in Major League Soccer, riding a four game winning streak heading into the week.  The Portland squad with a win in the weekend in Vancouver these will have to wait the faith of Dallas and Seattle.

As you recall Portland won in Seattle in June 30, of this year in CenturyLink in what became a valuable victory on the road. The question is as both squads are playing a one of a kind football what will the outcome be? Whether the two meet in a series or a one-off, it would be a very enticing match-up.

Such a face-off already happened in 2013 when the Portland Timbers eliminated the Seattle Sounders with a combined score of 5-3. That win allowed the Timbers to advance into the conference finals against Real Salt Lake. In the end, this face off for sure will uplift and add some excitement to the league postseason on the Western Conference.
