Alan Pulido and Gadi Kinda were able to make an immediate impact for Sporting Kansas City with each scoring to give the visitors a 3-1 win over the Whitecaps at BC Place. To add insult to injury to the Whitecaps, former first-round draft pick Erik Hurtado would add an insurance goal in stoppage time.

Jake Nerwinski got the only goal for the Whitecaps on an assist from David Milinkovic while Lucas Cavalini struck the post just before halftime. Milinkovic and Cavalini will be relied upon to make sure 2020 does not end up like 2019 did for the Caps.
