The final of three home games in nine days, the Sounders hosted the New York Red Bulls at CenturyLink Sunday afternoon.

Andy Rose, Ozzy Alonso and the rest of the Seattle midfield struggled against the high pressure defense of the Red Bull’s in the opening minutes of the match.

New York’s was first on the board in the 36th minute when a free kick from Bradley Wright-Phillips took a deflection to the head of Lloyd Sam.

The opening 45 minutes closed with 57% possession to Seattle. The movement of Dylan Remick and Christian Roldan provided relief for the Sounders out wide and increased their attacking opportunities as the half progressed.

After a shaky first half performance, Marco Pappa brought the scoreline for Seattle to 1-1 in the 69’.

A diagonal ball from Martins allowed Pappa to beat Chris Duvall on the left with goalkeeper Luis Robles unable to do anything with the high arching shot.

Neither team was satisfied with the one point, and in the final ten minutes both sides went hard chasing after another.

A stoppage time goal gave Seattle the win after substitute Chad Barrett tapped in a shot from wide by Clint Dempsey. The 91 minute goal came after several Seattle’s attack saw rejuvenated energy and many opportunities.

Dax McCarty, Felipe and Sacha Kjlestian proved to be the game changers for New York in Seattle. The work rate of the New York midfield made it hard for Seattle’s star striking duo of Dempsey and Martins to stay involved in the play. In the end, performances from Pappa and Remick huge contributors to the 2-1 win.
