VANCOUVER, BC–In a proverbial six-pointer to get closer to the playoff lineup, the Vancouver Whitecaps’ Brian White had a night with a hat trick as the Caps downed the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-0, at BC Place. White now has nine goals in 20 matches since his arrival via trade from New York Red Bulls.

White pounce on a rebound from Ryan Gauld’s initial attempt that was saved by JT Marcincowski in the 26th minute to put the Whitecaps ahead. On minute 59, White then headed in a free kick form Deiber Caicedo. Then in the 76th minute, White then headed in a corner kick from Gauld.

The Whitecaps are now just one point outside of a playoff place behind both LA Galaxy and Minnesota with seven matches to play. San Joses remain five points out of a playoff place with six to play.
