VANCOUVER, BC–In the weekend’s only MLS fixture, Vancouver Whitecaps are starting to sneak back up the Western Conference table with a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake at BC Place. Ranko Veselinovic opened the scoring in the 31st minute by poking in off a long throw-in to give the Whitecaps the lead. Twenty minutes later, RSL equalized off a long-ball as Justin Meram got on the end of one from Pablo Ruiz.

It looked like both teams would share one point until second half stoppage time when Aaron Herrera clipped Luis Martins in the area. Herrera picked up his second yellow and Ryan Gauld converted the spot kick to move the Whitecaps within one point of the playoff line in the West. RSL miss out on a chance to take sole possession of second place.
