VANCOUVER, BC–Vancouver Whitecaps earned just their second win of the season in controversial circumstances over Canadian rival Toronto FC, 1-0, at BC Place. The controversy came in the 66th minute when referee Victor Rivas disallowed a goal from Toronto’s Jayden Nelson adjudging him to have fouled keeper Thomas Hasal while he was in possession of the ball. This came after Alejandro Pozuelo was denied from the penalty spot in the first half by Hasal.

In the 89th minute, Tosaint Ricketts scored from close range off a pass from Lucas Cavallini. Ricketts remained onside as he was even with the ball as it was passed to him.

It is the fourth straight loss for Toronto FC while Vancouver hosts Valour FC of Winnipeg on Wednesday in the Canadian Championship hoping to avoid yet another early elimination in that competition.
