Colorado vaulted to third in the Western Conference with a 3-1 win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park over the Houston Dynamo. All the goals were scored in the first half and at least two were products of the Dynamo being architects of their own demise on Saturday. William Yarborough’s long ball to Michael Barrios was not dealt with and Barrios found Sam Vines with Houston’s defense at sea to roof it into the upper 90 in the 29th minute.
Diego Rubio doubled the host’s advantage seven minutes later heading in a cross from Barrios. Houston pulled one back in the 39th minute through Cristian Ramirez, but being too casual out of the back would bite the Dynamo in the 42nd minute as Cole Bassett blocked Marko Maric’s clearance and the ball went straight into the net.
It’s now three wins on the bounce for the Rapids after the home opening loss to Austin. They next travel to LAFC next Saturday while Houston host Vancouver that night.
