Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya is unlikely to miss any of the upcoming playoffs.
Bedoya limped off in the first half of Union’s penultimate game of the season, a 2-0 defeat at Columbus last weekend.
And it has since been confirmed Bedoya suffered a grade one quad strain, likely keeping him out of the final game of the regular season, against Eastern Conference winners New York City FC this Sunday.
Union manager Jim Curtin confirmed: “The weekend game will be difficult to turn around quickly for that.
“I think, certainly with our medical staff doing the great work that they do, he will be turned around and ready to go for the big playoff game.
“It’s the first muscle injury he’s had in his career, which is pretty remarkable.
“He’s learning how his body responds to things in that regard with muscle injuries.”
Thankfully for Union, their skipper is unlikely to miss any play-off action with two weeks to go until the post-season gets underway.
The recovery time for a grade one strain is usually between one and two weeks, meaning it’s possible Bedoya could have been rushed back for the regular season finale.
But Union will play it safe, especially given they can’t catch New York City on the final weekend.
Defeat to Columbus last week means the best Philadelphia can hope for is to finish second, needing to better Atlanta United’s result on the final day of the regular season to move into second.
