Dániel Gazdag’s hat trick helped the Philadelphia Union in its 5-1 victory over Querétaro FC in front of a packed mid-week crowd.
The first-half scoring started at the 30th minute when Dániel Gazdag shot from outside the box to the right corner. The assist went to Jack Elliott. Gazdag’s second goal occurred by PK a mere 9 minutes later when Julián Carranza drew a foul by Querétaro’s Keeper, Alejandro Arana in the box. Then shortly before the end of the first half, Nathan Harriel headed the ball to score off of a corner by Jesús Bueno.
The rout continued into the second-half with Gazdag’s second PK conversion off of a foul committed by Querétaro’s Emanuel Gularte on Jesús Bueno in the box.
Querétaro’s lone goal was too little, too late. At the 84th minute, an uncovered Raúl Sandoval slipped the ball past Philadelphia’s Andre Blake, assisted by Jonathán Torres.
Jack McGlynn scored the final goal at the end of the game, but the shot was taken from distance and bounced to the right side of the Querétaro keeper, Alejandro Arana.
Philadelphia’s scoring fest gave its no. 10, Daniel Gazdag, the lead in scoring for all teams in the Leagues Cup.
