Chester, PA
It was a long evening for the Philadelphia Union, as the team succumbed to Orlando City SC, 2-1. Philadelphia was missing many starters due to injury, international duty, and a red card in the preceding game against Montreal. The loss nevertheless was painful because it was the Union first home loss in 24 matches.
The crowd was particularly surprised with how quickly Philadelphia dug the trench. Orlando’s Martín Ojedacut blew past Philadelphia’s defense off of a through pass by Mauricio Pereyra at the 2nd minute. A mere 7 minutes later Orlando’s Mauricio Pereyra scored, also assisted by Pereyra.
Philadelphia was able to score in the 17th minute when Andrés Perea headed the ball to goal. The shot was saved by Orlando’s keeper, Mason Stajduhar, but Perea scored on the rebound.
