Some might describe it as a meaningless game. The Philadelphia Union already had clinched a playoff berth, and Toronto FC was eliminated from playoff contention. On the other hand, Philadelphia just had emerged from a bad loss (0-4) to Charlotte FC and the team was eager to cement its undefeated season on home turf.
Philadelphia took control from the get-go, with Dániel Gazdag’s first goal of the game at the fourth minute. The score stood at 1-0 until shortly before the half, when Mikael Uhre’s shot into the bottom right corner of the goal at the 42nd minute, which was assisted by Gazdag.
The home crowd pronounced that Gazdag was “on fire,” which ended up being the case as Gazdag earned a hat trick on the game. He converted a PK in the 60th minute and scored again in the 63rd minute.
A tip of the hat goes deservedly to Olivier Mbaizo, who saved a shot that looked to be in the back of the net in stoppage time for the first half.
