Sky Blue FC 1-Orlando Pride 2

Piscataway, N.J- Sky Blue FC fell 2-1 to the Orlando Pride, who saw their first victory in Week 10 of the NWSL season. The Pride scored the first goal of the match and while Sky Blue scored the equalizer, the visiting side managed to find the back of the net to finally see a victory from their side.

Both sides came out on the pitch and made several opportunities on goal, but struggled to finish the ball. The Pride did give Sky Blue goalkeeper Didi Haracic several chances to participate in the match, but Haracic was on top of the ball with saves.

In the 32nd minute, the Pride were issued a penalty kick for a hand ball within the box. Midfielder Chioma Ubogagu sent the ball to the bottom right corner to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage in the first half.

Imani Dorsey almost scored the equalizer for Sky Blue just before the half concluded. Her header on goal looked hopeful for the hosting team until the ball hit the crossbar. Sky Blue continued to put pressure on the visitors side of the field and didn’t remain scoreless for long.

Sky Blue were now on the other side of the benefiting factor from a hand ball within the box as the referee issued a penalty kick.  This allowed for Sky Blue to tie the score 1-1 as Sarah Killion made the same play as Ubogagu on goal.

Sky Blue helped the Pride come on top of the match as Orlando’s leading goal in the 80’ minute was an own goal from the home team. Pride midfielder Marisa Viggiano crossed the ball to the center of the net and in an attempt to clear it, Sky Blue defender Gina Lewandowski last made contact with the ball before it hit the back of the net.

The Pride earned three points from their victory and Sky Blue will prepare for their travels on the road for their next match. They will be the visiting team as they face the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, July 6 at 5p.m. PST.
