Orlando City Soccer Club has signed Middlesbrough defender Sebastian Hines on loan with an option to extend the Club announced today – pending receipt of his ITC. The addition of Hines strengthens the team’s backline for the start of the 2015 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
Per Club and league policy, additional terms were not disclosed.
“We’re very pleased to have Seb join us,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “His experience will be very valuable for our team’s competitive position in our first MLS season. We look forward to start working with him.”
Hines joins the Lions after spending half of the 2014 season on loan with Coventry in League One, featuring in nine matches.
The defender – who made his professional debut on January 16, 2007, for Middlesbrough against Hull City – has earned over 80 appearances in several English leagues, including the English Premier League, the Championship and League One for Middlesbrough, Derby County, Oldham Athletic and Coventry.
Additionally, Hines has 17 caps for England’s youth teams – featuring for the U-16, U-17 and U-19 teams. However, the center-back will not occupy an international slot as his father is an American citizen.
