On Wednesday night May 29, Providence Park had its second and last soft opening and its last test ahead of their homecoming on Saturday June 1st. At the Key Bank lounge, the club unveiled their new hospitality brand and introduced their new operator, Park Provisions. Concessions and hospitality services has been a big part of the $85 million renovation effort, from freezing prices to expansion of services, a new revamped menu and even new uniforms.

The stadium has gone though one of their biggest renovations since its construction in 1926, and it will add more than 4,000 seats, expanded services, and adds an impressive new look that promises to make Providence Park a louder and more impressive stronghold for The Portland Timbers. As for Wednesday night, the new areas still held construction equipment and uninstalled seats and other visual noise, everything looks to be ready for Saturday opening.

After 20 months, 900 pounds of steel, 3,300 cubic yards of concrete, 900 tons of rebar, and the addition of 82,000 square feet, a more massive LED scoreboard, a brand new pitch with the latest technology in artificial turf, everything seems dialed in for the reopening on Saturday.

After the presentation at the key bank, on the side, Timbers 2, disputed their second match in the new pitch, and provided the evening with a sweet desert  of their own, overcoming a 1-0 to a 2-1 victory over the Real Monarchs. Portland Timbers USL team, has played their last two games in the new old stadium, as a part of two soft openers,  resulting with a tie against El Paso Locomotive and last night’s victory over the Real Monarchs.
