Oklahoma sign ex-Motherwell star
It’s not often you get to write that headline, but much traveled Jamaican midfielder Omar Daley has been on quite a journey in his career. He has played over 50 times for Jamaican and has represented them in far flung places like Argentina and the Cayman Islands.
He may be the only thing the tax shelter and Motherwell have in common, unless Margaret Thatcher destroyed the Islands’ economy too.
Daley’s journey also includes Minnesota, the Bahamas, Bradford and Rotherham. After coping with all those accents, Danish head coach Jimmy Nielsen will probably sound like Henry Higgins.

OKC ENERGY FC SIGNS OMAR DALEY
Midfielder with 50-plus caps for Jamaica added to roster
OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC has announced the signing of midfielder Omar Daley, General Manager Jason Hawkins announced today. Daley joins Energy FC after playing with the Minnesota United.
“Omar had a great international career and is a player that is still hungry to score,” said Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “We’re happy to have someone with his experience on the team.”
The Clarendon native has more than 50 caps for Jamaica and has five international goals to his credit. He made his first appearance for his home country at the 2001 FIFA U20 World Youth Championship in Argentina. He was first called up for the national team during a tour of the Cayman Islands.
Three of his five international goals came in CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying matches against St. Lucia and Haiti. Daley made an appearance in a friendly loss to England prior to the 2006 World Cup. He scored his fourth career international goal in a 7-0 win over the Bahamas in the 2008 CONCACAF World Cup qualifier. Daley earned his most recent cap during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he scored in a 4-0 win over Grenada.
Daley started his club career with Portmore in the Jamaican National Premier League before joining the USL’s Charleston Battery. After 10 months in Charleston, Daley signed with England’s Bradford City and played with fellow Jamaicans Donovan Ricketts and Jermaine Johnson during his 18-month term with the club. He was loaned to Rotherham United before joining Motherwell of the Scottish Premier League for two seasons.
Daley joined Minnesota United in August 2013 and appeared in five games during the 2013 NASL fall championship. Daley’s hat trick in the final match of the 2013 season was the first hat trick by a Minnesota player since 2007.
