New York Red Bulls Player Ratings vs New York Cosmos

Red Bulls Starting 11

Robles  6.5

Besides the one goal, which would have been a miraculous save from so close, Robles had another good night in goal, offering great distribution and a sense of assuredness at the back. Made a great save on a Marco Senna free kick early in the game.

Duvall 7.5

It is a shame when anybody suffers a broken leg and is forced to miss a significant amount of time, but it just seems all the more cruel that it came during one of Duvall’s best games at right back for the Red Bulls. Coming off of his great performance against NYCFC this past weekend, Duvall once again shut down the right flank on Wednesday, while at the same time bombing forward. It was his relentless pursuit of a loose ball that allowed him to sneak in a touch ahead of a defender in the Cosmo’s box, causing that defender to take him down for a penalty, and subsequently, the Red Bull’s third goal.

Perrinelle- 7

Another assured performance at the back, Perrinelle set the tone early with his usual aerial dominance. Had a couple standout plays as well, including a last ditch stop on a surging Restrepo in the 63’rd minute.

Miazga 6.5

Overall, a good performance from the young center-back, as he pressured the Cosmos attackers well and maintained his usual level of composure, for the most part. The only caveat was his poor attempted clearance that led to the Cosmos’ goal, though running backwards while trying to clear a ball is hardly mundane.

Lade 4.5

The young Red Bulls academy graduate got taken to school on the left flank all evening by the Cosmos’ Restrepo, and was the very clear weak link in the Red Bulls’ defense. Lade’s day was epitomized in the 16th minute by the dummy move Restrepo pulled on him, which left young Lade in the dust while Restrepo and the Cosmos capitalized on a 3v2 attack to tie the game.

McCarty 7

Another job well done for the Red Bulls metronome, who kept the ball moving out of his feet quickly and harassed the Cosmos midfield enough to prevent any serious danger

Davis 7.5

Like Dax, Davis did a fine job doing the dirty work, pressuring, tackling, and winning the ball for his team. Maybe it would take a goal to give Davis some wider recognition from the fans and press, but his significant contribution won’t be lost on Marsch.

Kljestan 6.5

An okay day, by Kljestan’s high standards, as he rarely lost the ball and even was able to notch himself an assist from the corner. However, there were a couple times when it seems like he missed opportunities for some great through balls to Abang, who was making incisive runs all night.

Zizzo 7

Marsch has to be pleased that he can start a player like Zizzo, who hasn’t received too many minutes of late, and have him contribute the way he did. Within five minutes of the game, Zizzo scored a free header on the back post to give the Red Bulls a great start. However, his contribution lasted all game, and he could have had a couple assists to his tally before the day was done.

Sam 7

A good outing for a player trying to find his way back from injury, Sam contributed early with a terrific cross in the 5th minute to find Zizzo open on the back post for the first goal. Sam looked shifty and dangerous on the right wing in a performance that should be a huge mental boost in his recovery back from injury

Abang 8 (MOTM)

As a target forward, Abang was phenomenal against the Cosmos, bullying their back line around at his will, and fighting for possession any chance he got. A goal is exactly what his performance deserved, and it was a great goal at that, pushing off his defender with ease in the box to head home Kjlestan’s cross from the corner.

Subs:

Grella 7.5

Grella came on with 25 minutes left in the game and did what he did best- danced around the defense and eventually burned them with a peach of an individual goal. This man’s form shows no signs of slowing any time soon.

Felipe 6.5

Subbed on to nullify any threat of a comeback by the Cosmos, Felipe put in a solid shift and kept the game relatively comfortable for the Red Bulls. Should have had a goal in the 86th minute if it wasn’t for an amazing point-blank save from the Cosmos goalkeeper.

Lawrence  N/A

Came on for the injured Duvall in the 83rd minute, had a limited impact with the Red Bulls dominating the last few minutes of the game.
