New York City FC today announced the signing of Colombian midfielder Javier Calle on a season-long loan agreement with an option to purchase. He has travelled with his new teammates to Manchester as they continue their pre-season preparations.

He joins Slovakian Adam Nemec who most recently played for German side Union Berlin in the 2nd division of the German Bundesliga, scoring 14 goals in 64 appearances.

Nemec has represented Slovakia 14 times, scoring 2 goals including a crucial goal in Euro 2016 qualifying this past November and will be added to NYCFC’s roster for the 2015 season pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa.

New York City FC Sporting Director, Claudio Reyna said of Nemec:

“Adam is a different type of striker than we have on the roster so far which gives us a different dimension up front and options on how our forward line can play.”

Calle, 23, was a key part of the Independiente Medellín team that made it to the final of the 2014 Clausura tournament with 6 goals in 13 appearances in the regular season. He made his debut for the Medellin team in 2009 as a 17 year old.

He was part of the Colombia U20 team which made it to the Quarter finals of the U20 World Cup in 2011.

New York City FC Head Coach, Jason Kreis, commenting on the signing, told NYCFC.com:

“We are very pleased to bring Javier on board. He is a left-footed, versatile and creative player who I believe will adapt well to MLS and give us some different options in midfield. He has impressed both at club and international level and we are confident that he will continue to develop with us in New York.”

Javier Calle added:

“I’m very excited to join such an amazing club and have the opportunity to play for Coach Kreis. I’m looking forward to joining my talented new teammates and my goal is to help New York City FC to succeed as quickly as possible.”

Calle will be added to New York City FC’s roster for the 2015 season pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
