No relief in sight for the Portland Timbers against a recharged Colorado Rapids

With 282 minutes not scoring a goal and with 37 minutes up a man after Diego Rubio was shown the red card in the 63rd minute, somehow the visiting Portland Timbers couldn’t pull off a win and take advantage of the Colorado Rapids.

There was no inspiration or creativity in the performance performance today at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for the Timbers despite some moments. This team is not delivering positive results and the lack of goals is becoming worrisome.

As Giovanni Saverese stated in the postgame press conference, expressing how his team could deliver a positive result and in the end. The team is not finishing chances, and the team is missing that ingredient to score and lacked some of its urgency.

So far, the Portland side is missing a couple of important players sidelined with injuries such as Diego Chara with a hip injury and Sebastian Blanco with a thigh injury.

Not everything was lost for the Rose City side but in the end, they ended up missing a lot of opportunities as this is a team effort and does not depend on just one player or two.

For Colorado, they almost opened the score when defender Lalas Abubakar almost put the Rapids on the scoreboard, but was denied by the game official disallowing the goal.

In the end, this was to be the local’s night to show off when Diego Rubio put the locals ahead with a free-kick and left Aljaz Ivacic standing on his goalposts to open the scoreboard in the 30th minute.

Diego Rubio’s flagrant foul on Justin Rasmussen saw him sent off in the 63rd minute leaving the Rapids with ten men on the pitch, but the Timbers never took advantage of the opportunity.

In the ending minutes of the match, the Rapids went on the attack and scored the insurance goal in the 95th minute when Mark Anthony Kaye scored to give Colorado the win.
