A rain filled Wednesday evening was capped off with the New England Revolution and Nashville SC playing to a scoreless draw at Gillette Stadium.
The Revolution starting XI would be strengthened by the return of Tajon Buchanan and Matt Turner, both returning from Gold Cup international duties. However, a big question coming into tonight’s match would be if the Revolution would be able to produce without captain and playmaker Carles Gil who left the previous match with an injury.Gil currently leads MLS in assists and has contributed to nearly every Revolution goal this season. The Revs would come out of the gate controlling play. They dominated possession and shot stats through the first half, but were unable to break down the defensive minded visitors. Nashville did not have many chances, but gave the Revs a couple of scares on quick counter attacks.
Into the second half, the game remained on the same script. Long strings of attacking possessions by the Revs with mixed counters from Nashville was the story throughout the full match. About midway into the half it looked as if the Revs had earned a penalty shot, but VAR was quick to rightly overturn the call.
The Revs would continue to get chances with Teal Bunbury, Adam Buksa, and Bou all creating multiple scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, it seems for the Revs that they will struggle without their leader and playmaker in Carles Gil. Despite their strong push towards goal, the Revolution were unable to put one into the back of the net.
A scoreless draw is how this one would conclude. A 0-0 final would see the Revs move to 11-3-4. With Seattle drawing against FC Dallas, the Revolution remain in first place of the Supporters Shield race with 37 points.
