New York Red Bulls II halt the New England Revolution II’s winning streak with 4-1 blowout victory

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution II were defeated 4-1 in a match versus New York Red Bulls II in an MLS NEXT Pro Match on Sunday, June 4th.

The match kicked off at 7:00 p.m. ET at MSU Park in Montclair, N.J.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with Jacob Jackson starting in net with a backline of Colby Quinones (left back), Santiago Suarez, and Victor Souza as the center backs and with Jacob Akanyirige (right back). The midfield consisted of Jake Rozhansky (left), Jack Panayotou (central) and Esmir Bajraktarevic (right). The forward roles were manned by Marcos Dias (left) Malcolm Fry (right), and Jordan Adebayo-Smith as the lone striker.

The match features 3 first team players with Esmir Bajraktarevic and Jack Panayotou getting the starts, while Joshua Bolma started the match on the bench.

The match kicked off with New York starting from the center circle. The ball was played backwards towards their defense and then quickly launched into the New England defensive third.

Early on in the 4th minute, the Red Bulls jumped out with an early lead.

After a bad giveaway by goalkeeper Jacob Jackson, the ball was quickly intercepted by #48 Elias Alves de Paula, who then took two touches before sliding a ball into the box to find #41 Julian Hall for his first career goal for Red Bulls II

Just about 2 minutes later, in the 6th minute, the Revolution leveled the match.

Forward Malcolm Fry found Esmir Bajraktarevic, who took Fry’s pass out of the air with a spectacular first touch. He then played a left-footed ball down the line to Jordan Adebayo-Smith. His quick cross was blocked but then allowed him to pick up the rebound to send yet another cross. It found Malcolm Fry who made the advanced run from midfield. He then played a square ball into the box to find an unmarked Jack Panayotou to score it home for the Revolution.

The next chance for Red Bulls came in the 13th minute where #41 Julian Hall’s headed effort struck the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

Continuing his attacking masterclass in the match, #41 Julian Hall had yet another chance in the 30th minute where his shot deflected off of Jakob Akanyirige, and the shot struck the crossbar once again. Defender Victor Souza then chested the ball down to Jackson to slow down the Red Bull attack.

Entering the 39th minute, New York regained the lead.

#91 intercepted the ball and found #40 Julian Hall on the right flank. His cross into the penalty area found #90 Oladayo Thomas inside the Revolution penalty area unmarred to smash it past Jackson for the goal.

Just before the halftime whistle, New York scored yet another goal to extend their advantage.

Following a through ball from #31 Ibrahim Kasule, the ball found #48 Ronald Donkor. He took one touch before smashing the ball past Jackson.

Seconds after the goal, the match entered halftime with New York Red Bulls II leading the match 3-1.

Entering the second half, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his first change of the match by substituting Jakob Akanyirige and replacing him with Peyton Miller.

In the 48th minute, Red Bulls defender #47 Yostin Salinas entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh challenge on Jordan Adebayo-Smith.

In the 66th minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his second and third change of the match by substituting Malcolm Fry and Marcos Dias and replacing them with Joshua Bolma and Ben Awashie

Seconds after the substitution, the Red Bulls struck the bar for the third time of the match. This time by #37 .

In the 71st minute, New York scored their fourth.

After a successful high press, the Red Bulls intercepted the ball. The entry pass into the area was met with shouts for a penalty, and with a missed clearance by the Revelation defense, #31 Ibrahim Kasule scored his fourth of the season.

Entering the 74th minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his fourth of the match by substituting Jack Panayotou and replacing him with Olger Escobar.

Minutes later, in the 81st minute, Revolution II head coach Clint Peay made his fifth and final change of the match by substituting Jordan Adebayo Smith and replacing him with Weverton.

In the 86th minute, Red Bulls forward #37 Mohammed Sofo entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh challenge on Esmir Bajraktarevic.

After the 90+3 minutes, the match ended with New York Red Bulls II dominating for the 4-1 victory over the New England Revolution II.
