The 2016 MLS season was a year that the Houston Dynamo organization and fans would like to forget. The team went through two coaches, mid-season changes on the roster, postponed matches due to weather, lack of team chemistry, and injuries among other things. So, this year the organization is hoping to turn things around. Hiring coach Wilmer Cabrera was the first step to renovate the team. Also, new faces on the roster such as Alberth Elis, Adolfo Machado, and A. J. De la Garza are giving the team an upgrade in key positions on the field.

The expectation about what Houston can do in this upcoming MLS season is big. Team chemistry which was something they lacked last season appeared to be great during pre-season where the Dynamo won the Desert Diamond Cup in Arizona. The club finished pre-season undefeated with a 6-0-1 record. The offense is looking very promising with the new additions as well as a solid defense.

It is not a secret that anything can happen in an MLS campaign. At the beginning of every season there are teams marked as contenders. However, teams which finish strong are the ones that end up being champions. This year Houston is trying to revert that and have a consistent and strong season throughout. The Dynamo is under construction, but certainly is heading to where the fans and the organization wants this team to be.

The first test for this Houston team is the current MLS champion Seattle Sounders on March 4th at BBVA Compass Stadium at 7:30 pm. Seattle is looking to have a consistent season and to get its second MLS title in club’s history.
