On Wednesday May 15, the New England Revolution and Chelsea FC played a charity match at Gillette stadium which raised $4 million dollars that will support organizations that fight against antisemitism, discrimination and hate crimes. 27,000 fans turned out, with a majority of fans sporting Chelsea’s blue jerseys. One fan held the a sign saying he drove 12 hours to attend the game. The game ended 3-0 for Chelsea and with both teams having unlimited substitutions, virtually every team member from both sides was on the pitch. The recent NE Revolution Academy signing Nick Firmino made his professional debut in the game.
The match capped the end of a series of events including a trip by NE Revolution staff to join Chelsea in participating in the annual March of the Living in Poland and a joint team visit to the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston.
