Houston Release:
Houston Dynamo sign midfielder Nathan Sturgis
The Houston Dynamo have signed Nathan Sturgis after acquiring the midfielder in the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Dec. 18, the club announced today. Per club and league policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Sturgis, 27, is a nine-year MLS veteran and returns to Houston after making nine appearances in all competitions for the Dynamo in 2012. Sturgis recorded three assists in three CONCACAF Champions League games as the Dynamo won their group. The Boca Raton, Florida native made 22 appearances (13 starts) with Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids last season.
“Nathan is an intelligent midfielder with a substantial amount of MLS experience,” Dynamo vice president/general manager Matt Jordan said. “We are confident of his ability to contribute to the success of our team this season.”
Sturgis was the No. 12 overall selection in the 2006 SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy and made stops at Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC before coming to the Dynamo in 2012. Sturgis was traded to the Colorado Rapids following the 2012 season, and was most recently with Chivas USA. Sturgis has made 127 regular season appearances and scored five goals in MLS. Sturgis was a regular with U.S. youth national teams from Under-17 through Under-23s and participated in the U-20 World Youth Championships in 2005 and the U-20 World Cup in 2007.
