Nashville City SC won its first ever meeting against fellow expansion side, Inter Miami, on Sunday night, thanks to a right-footed blast from Anibal Godoy.
Nashville moves up to 11th place with seven points now with a second win of the season, while Miami sits dead last in the Eastern Conference with just three points.
Despite the loss, Miami outplayed Nashville in almost every area of the pitch, but failed to score the elusive goal.
Miami registered 16 shots to Nashville’s five, while also edging possession with 54 percent.
Nashville was under threat far more often than Miami, and was forced to clear its lines 36 times to Miami’s 11.
With Miami earning its first ever win this past week, it seemed that maybe Diego Alonso’s squad had finally settled and found its winning ways. However, while the play was strong, the result was not.
In the end, all that matters it that Nashville found the net, while keeper Joe Willis notched five saves and the shutout.
Nashville opted to rest usual starers Dax McCarty and DP Hanny Mukhtar, with Tah Anunga and Abu Danladi getting their first starts.
Miami lined out with the now-recognizable 3-4-3 with Rodolfo Pizarro, Mattias Pellegrini and Julian Carranza leading the lines.
Despite signing him several weeks ago, Miami has yet to have French World Cup winner, Blaise Matuidi make the game-day roster.
Victor Ulloa and Wil Trapp continue to make the cut as the starting midfield duo, but when Matuidi does enter the scene, it seems one of the two will have to take a back seat to the former PSG and Juventus man.
There is a quick turnaround for both clubs, as Nashville hosts Orlando City and Miami visits Atlanta United on Wednesday.
Though Miami will be frustrated with the result, the two teams play again shortly, with Miami getting the chance to play host on Sunday September 9th in what will be just Miami’s second ever home match.
