Major League Soccer has won the SportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily Sports League of the Year.

Other leagues nominated were:

American Athletic Conference
Major League Baseball
NASCAR
National Basketball Association
PGA Tour
Other soccer nominations which failed to win were the Womens World Cup Final for Event of the Year, the Portland Timbers for Team of the Year, Stan Kroenke for Executive of the Year, San Jose’s Avaya Stadium for Facility of the Year, the USWNT for Sports Social Media and Orlando City in the Sports Breakthrough Category.

New York, N.Y. – The best in sports business were honored last night at the ninth annual Sports Business Awards, which included the presentation of the SportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily Lifetime Achievement Award to Bud Selig, the former commissioner of Major League Baseball.

The awards, which recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in the sports industry for the period from March 1, 2015, through February 29, 2016, were presented by Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily, the two leading publications on the business of sports. The Sports Business Awards were presented at a live ceremony held Wednesday, May 18 at the New York Marriott Marquis at Times Square.

“We are pleased to recognize the achievements of the sports industry’s leaders and visionaries with our ninth annual Sports Business Awards,” says Richard Weiss, publisher of theSportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily. “The companies and individuals being honored tonight as winners and nominees are at the forefront of the sports industry and are pushing innovation with smart thinking and creative approaches.”

Awards were presented in 17 categories. Winners were chosen by a committee of outside panelists and members of the editorial staff of the SportsBusiness Journal/Daily.
