Foxborough, MA – The New England Revolution have made 2 draft day trades with Minnesota United FC.
The New England Revolution have acquired $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) from Minnesota United FC in exchange for New England’s natural first and third-round selections in MLS SuperDraft 2024. (Picks #20 & 78).
Minnesota went on to select forward Marcus Caldeira from West Virginia (Pick #20) and midfielder Babacar Niang from Wake Forest (Pick #78).
Due to the trade, New England officially entered the MLS SuperDraft with no picks as the club had previously traded their second-round pick to D.C. United to acquire $50,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) along with the rights to midfielder Ian Harkes. (Pick #49).
D.C. went on to pick defender Aldair Sanchez from Sacramento Republic (Pick #49)
Via Twitter, the Revolution tweeted a statement from Sporting Director Curt Onalfo.
He stated, “As we evaluated our supplemental roster and the strength of our academy and pro pathway ahead of Tuesday’s MLS SuperDraft, and weighed that against our late-round position in the draft order, we decided that the best way to strengthen our club this week would be to leverage our draft capital into valuable allocation money that will help allow us greater flexibility to enhance our team through the senior roster,”.
According to Pioneer Press sportswriter Andy Greder, The Revolution have also traded the rights to second-team forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith to Minnesota for an additional $125,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM).
Jordan Adebayo-Smith, 22, scored 12 goals and registered 6 assists in 30 Appearances (28 starts) where he logged 2,373 minutes in MLS NEXT Pro for the New England Revolution II last season.

Greder states that his sources claim that the deal is contingent on Adebayo-Smith passing his medical exam. He is expected to arrive in Minnesota this week, and the deal is set to be announced shortly afterwards.
With Caleb Porter named as the New England Revolution’s new Head Coach, the Revolution can now look to prepare before the start of their 2024 MLS campaign.
