It might be an ambitious long shot but it has been reported that an unnamed MLS club has joined the race to sign long-term Manchester United target Moises Caicedo. The English club has been tracking the young Ecuadorian midfielder since last summer and with the summer transfer window now open in the EPL, are free to make another move.
However, the teenage sensation who currently plays for Independiente del Valle in the is not short of other options. It has been reported that now Chelsea, also in the EPL, and an MLS club are looking to hijack that move. With an asking price of around €6 million not being enough to fend off an ambitious MLS club and the likelihood of being able to offer a guaranteed starting role, this is a move not out of the realms of possibility.
Unfortunately, it probably still is, though!
United and Chelsea Still Remain the Most Likely Destination
Where the MLS team will not be able to compete is wages and of course the increased profile Caicedo would have by joining a major EPL side. Brighton have emerged too as a late contender for his services. Perform well when given a chance and he could go on to become a global name and potentially a world class footballer. The only question is when he will get those chances and whether he is suited to the English game, weather, and way of life.
Manchester United and Chelsea have star studded squads that will not be easy for a 19-year to break into. With the wages he earns and the ability to train alongside world stars, he may not see that as too much of a problem and be willing to wait for the chances when they come around.
What are the Odds on Moises Caicedo’s Move?
Most online sportsbooks are so confident that Moises Caicedo will move to Manchester United that they have stopped taking bets. The wonderkid has made no secret of his desire to move and even ‘liked’ a club tweet just yesterday. This is a shame for those that thought the deal may fall through again and would have wagered money on it.
Still, betting fans can always bet on a number of other potential transfers in the coming weeks. Where Christian Eriksen may end up is attracting a lot of interest. He is 2/1 to go to Inter Milan and 3/1 to go to PSG at this moment in time. Just make sure you join a sportsbook that offers something back like enhanced offers.
United Recruitment Drive Shifts to The World’s Brightest Talents
Bringing in such a talented teenager will no doubt help United but there have long been concerns that the club does not yet have the firepower to sustain their current title bid. However, where they would previously go and spend big on a proven star, it seems that COVID-19 has forced even the biggest club in the world to alter their recruitment plans.
Instead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to unearth the best young talent in the world, bring them in for relatively low fees, and nurture them into the stars the club will need in the future. The club already has a plethora of your academy prospects making names for themselves and the manager seemingly values youth and hunger over experience in the world’s current climate.
Think Caicedo Will Make an Impact?
Is Caicedo the right man for the red side of Manchester or should he take up the move to the MLS? Either way, it is going to be interesting to see how this young man’s career pans out. For every Cristianado Ronaldo that breaks through so young and goes on to be a legend, there is a Freddy Adu that does not go on to fulfill his early promise. Hopefully for young Moises, it is the former and not the latter.
