Match Preview: Columbus Crew vs CF Montreal

After a lengthy weather delay that caused the Columbus Crew and Charlotte FC to eventually postpone their Eastern Conference clash this past weekend, the Black & Gold are back home for two home matches against the CF Montreal and New York City FC.

First up, CF Montreal.

Columbus still have their nine-game unbeaten streak intact, as they host their Canadian counterparts for a midweek clash.

With only 16 minutes played in their last match, Columbus will look to rotate their squad, keeping fresh legs available. Columbus looked good, flying high and pressuring the Charlotte backline, but the final pass just wasn’t enough to secure a goal. Charlotte on the other hand, were caught off guard by the high start of Columbus. They had chances of their own, but also couldn’t convert.

For the Impact, they are coming into this match off of an impressive 0-0 draw against New York City FC.

“We’re reaching the final third of the year, the business end of the season where tables start to shake out and you’re either going to be above the red line in the playoffs, you’re either going to be lingering around that line and on the road or top four and get home games,” said head coach Caleb Porter.

“We’re playing two home games in a row against teams that are ahead of us. We need to hunt those teams, they’re where we wanna be.”

Columbus hold the series lead with a 12-4-9 (W-T-L) record, with Columbus sitting in 6th place in the Eastern Conference and Montreal in 3rd place.
