Washington, D.C.- Elimination matches are becoming a bit of an old hat for D.C. United. For the second consecutive week United were faced with a get points or go out scenario. And for the second consecutive week United did enough to keep themselves alive in the Eastern Conference. Returning home after a two game road trip and playing in front of a packed crowd of 22,209 at RFK Stadium United delivered perhaps their most important victory a 4-1 defeat of Orlando City SC.
Patrick Mullins (34′ and 53′) scored twice for United and was joined by Lloyd Sam (51′) and Julian Buscher (90′)in the scoring barrage. Second-half substitute Julio Baptista (72′) provided Orlando’s lone goal. The victory pushes United (8-9-13, 37 points) once again into the sixth and final playoff spot in the West while Orlando (7-10-13, 34 points) with the loss drops down to eighth. The two sides will meet again on the final day of the season in Orlando.
