Lucky 14 for the Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers 2, Houston Dynamo 1

Fourteen is now the number to which these battle-hardened Portland Timbers extended their streak as the day came when Fanendo Adi was to play his last match in a Timbers uniform.

Saturdays match was not to be an easy one for the Rose City squad, with Houston in the house.

An inspired Alvas Powell and Sebastian Blanco conspired to give the home side the lead. Houston equalized five minutes later, with a smart play from Alberth Elis who robbed the ball from Portland defender Julio Cascante and passed to an open Romell Quioto who tied the match at one goal apiece until the second half.

Here was to be curtain call for Fanendo Adi when he came as a substitute in the 75’ minute for Dairon Aspirilla.

Five minutes later, an unforgettable moment arrived when Adi scored on a ricochet ball after Sebastian Blanco’s luring the Houston defenders and goalkeeper to a state of disarray for the departing Adi to score the game winner.

This night was an especial one for the Nigerian playing his last match at Providence Park.

Fanendo Adi last matches playing in Providence Park as a Portland Timber. The gentle giant’s departure will be felt heavily. The other notable from the game was the effort all match long for Dairon Aspirilla. Among one of his plays was a bicycle kick that on the mark would become a headliner of a play in all MLS.
