The Portland Timbers and Designated Player Lucas Melano, agreed to part ways mutually, terminating the forward’s contract and placed on MLS waivers.
As the Portland Timbers General Manager and President of Soccer, his statement read like this “We would like to thank Lucas for his service to the club – including his contributions in helping the Timbers win their first MLS Cup – and we wish him the best in his future endeavors”.
For Giovanni Savarese expressed his gratefulness by saying “It was a pleasure getting to know Lucas and we are thankful for his contributions to the Timbers,” as well “I wish him well as he moves on from the club.”
Lucas Melano signed with the Portland Timbers on July 17, 2015.
Lucas Melano played four seasons with the club, with 10 playoff matches (4 starts). On the 2015 postseason, Melano scored the game winning goal, that clinch the series against FC Dallas in the Western Conference Championship.
In addition, of providing an assist on the game winning goal as the Portland Timbers defeated the Columbus Crew to win their first MLS Cup on December 6, 2015.
Lucas Melano in his time in Rose City, unfortunately could not find the game he is somehow comfortable with and never lived to his expectations. With 59 appearances with the club he tallied five goals and nine assists in 59 appearances. In his time in Portland he was loaned from January 2017 to June 2018 to Estudiantes de la Plata and Belgrano, before his return to Portland.
